Notes for JOHAN
GEORGE ANSTEIN:
Jon was the first son of Hans George and Catherine that lived.
No wonder as all the traveling around and hiding that they did.
This is one of three sons of the immigrant Hans Georg Anstine who served their country in military service during the American Revolution. There is a reference to George's age that differs with the 24 November 1761 date, and that is in the records of the Faulkner's Swamp Church, whose records show a year of 1758 for his birth, which I believe to be incorrect. To date three individuals have filed applications for membership in the DAR/SAR as descendants of this man. The registry numbers are NSDAR # 511,649 & # 508,544, with my own membership #144,308 being in the SAR. All references to this George Anstine relating to his dates of birth and death refer to the dates as 24 November 1761 and 30 May 1846; all, that is, except the dates shown in the records of the Falkners Swamp Lutheran Church of Montgomery County, Pa. ( where they were all reported to have baptized ) which shows the very same day and month for birth and death BUT three years earlier! ( 24 November 1758 and 30 May 1843 ). I can not reconcile this discrepancy, nor can I bring myself to believe that there were two Johan Georg Anstines with the same dates three years apart. Therefore, I am going to assume that they are one and the same person. And, because of the many references to 1761 & 1846, I will subscribe to these dates as being "more correct" than the other. George's son John shown could have been born after Johan Georg was discharged from the Revolutionary Army on 16 October 1780; before Catherine on 23 May 1782; OR he may have been born in the period between Elizabeth in 1784 and Henry in 1791. I think the latter is the most probable.

Marriage Notes
for JOHAN ANSTEIN and ANNA SCHARER:
Jim Rhea writes: It now appears that George & Anna Barbara
Anstine had 5 children, not just 4 as earlier thought. In order
of their birth they are Catherine, Elizabeth, John, Barbara &
Henry. John is estimated to have been born about 1786-7 and Barbara
about 1788-9.
Children of JOHAN ANSTEIN and ANNA SCHARER are:
i. CATHARINE3 ANSTINE, b. May 23, 1782, Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania;
d. Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania.
Notes for CATHARINE
ANSTINE:
Sister Catherine seems to have disconnected herself from the
family as she is not named in any baptisms nor other affairs
that are recorded in the town of Stewartstown or the Church at
Sadler's. She does not seem to have been married, though she is
named favorably in her fathers will. She was herself buried at
Blymire's Church Cemetery about 10 miles or so north of Sadler's
Church, near Dallastown, Pa. It seems she had left the immediate
area of her father's farm, mills, church, and perhaps .. influence.
See the notes for Catherine for more light on this matter

ANSTINE:
Concerning Elizabeth Anstine, daughter of George & Anna Barbara
(Sherer) Anstine, I make the following observation .. she is
buried at Sadler's Cemetery with her mother & father, and
it would seem to me that if she were married to a responsible
man and died at the age of 39 years, would not her husband obtain
his own burial site where he might later be buried with his wife
? I suggest that it was Elizabeth's father George who determined
where his daughter Elizabeth was buried, and that due to her
having never been married

Elizabeth Schaeffer, the mother of Henrich's wife Christina, is the daughter of Christopher Schaeffer, an immigrant who is believed to have come to this country on 19 September 1738 aboard the good ship "Thistle".

Well before I had any intention of doing a major piece of research on the largert Anstine Family, I had occassion to look through the old Orphans Court Court record books at the court house in York. However, I did not write down any notes at that time, and thus I am left only with my recollection and inpressions.
My impression at that time was that someone was apparently up to something with regards to the land of the father Henry Anstine. My recollection is that the administrators were estimating that the land was worth only $7 per acre, while persons more inclined to look after Henry's family were judging that it was more much more. There ensued a major tug-of-war between these two factions that lasted for quite some time. In the end, I think the land went very cheaply, with Henry's family feeling that they had been treated poorly. Perhaps I will re-research this again in detail and do an update of this, if time permits. For now, the record would seem to substantiate that there was indeed some tension amoung various family members.
